09 Personalization
WxTerm provides rich personalization options: UI themes, terminal themes, custom themes, background images, fonts, keymap editor, and UI language.
9.1 Theme System
WxTerm’s themes are divided into two layers:
| Theme type | Scope | Switch entry |
|---|---|---|
| UI theme | Application UI (title bar, menu, sidebar, dialogs, etc.) | Menu “Options → UI Theme” |
| Terminal theme | Terminal area color scheme (foreground, background, ANSI 16 colors) | Menu “Options → Terminal Theme” |
The two are configured independently and can be freely combined (e.g. dark UI + light terminal).
Built-in Themes
Both UI themes and terminal themes are categorized by “Dark / Light”, with multiple built-in color schemes.
Switch UI Theme
- Menu “Options → UI Theme”.
- In the submenu, select the “Dark” or “Light” category.

Sci-Fi Theme
WxTerm has a special “Sci-Fi” UI theme; when enabled:
- The welcome screen’s action cards display HUD-style sci-fi corner decorations (cyan L-shaped corners).
- The overall color scheme leans toward a cyberpunk style.

9.2 Custom Theme
In addition to built-in themes, you can create fully custom themes, freely configuring every color.
Open the Custom Theme Editor
- Menu “Options → Custom Theme”.
Editor UI

Configurable color categories include:
- UI colors: background, secondary background, hover, text, muted text, border, accent, etc.
- Terminal colors: foreground, background, ANSI 16 colors (black/red/green/yellow/blue/magenta/cyan/white and their bright variants), cursor color, selection color, etc.
Color Selection
- Each color item shows a hex input box + a color block preview.
- Click the color block to open a color picker (with a saturation/value panel + hue bar).
- You can also directly enter a hex color value in the input box.
Theme Name and Multi-language Translation
- You can set multi-language names for a theme (Theme Translation); each language shows the corresponding theme name.
- At least one language name must be set.
Save and Apply
- Click “Save” to save the theme to
themes.jsonin the configuration directory (configuration directory location see 01 Getting Started & UI Overview). - After saving, it is automatically applied and appears in the theme switch menu.

You can set a background image for the terminal or the entire application.
Configuration Entry
- Menu “Options → Settings” → “Terminal” page → Background image area.
- Or find the background image configuration in menu “Options → Settings”.
Configuration Fields
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Mode | None / Terminal only / Entire app |
| Image path | Local image file path |
| Opacity | 0.0 ~ 1.0, controls background image transparency |
- Terminal only: the background image is only shown in the terminal area; UI elements keep the theme color.
- Entire app: the background image fills the entire window; the title bar, menu bar, sidebar, etc. become semi-transparent overlaid on the background image.

Background image feature is available in all plans.

Configuration Fields

| Field | Description |
