Chapter 10 — Troubleshooting

10.1 Startup & Installation

Q: The Remote button is missing/disabled after launching? That is expected in local mode (launched without connection arguments). Launch with -sid or direct-connection arguments, or add a server in the Remote panel, to enable remote editing.

Q: Linux complains about a missing libwxrt.so? The runtime ships next to the executable (bundled in tar.gz/AppImage). If you copied the binary manually, keep wxeditor and libwxrt.so in the same directory, or install via the distribution package.

Q: wxterm fails to launch wxeditor? wxterm reads the exec path from ~/.wxeditor/execute.json. The pointer is verified and rewritten on every wxeditor startup — if you moved the installation, start wxeditor once to fix it.

10.2 Connections

Q: SSH authentication fails?

• Password auth: verify -authType pwd and the password; enc: passwords from wxterm require the matching master key on this machine.
• Certificate auth: verify the private key path and that its permissions are 600.
• The first connection asks to confirm the host fingerprint.

Q: Saving a remote file reports a permission error? Enter a sudo-capable username/password in the permission dialog to save with elevated rights.

10.3 Editing & Display

Q: No syntax highlighting for my file? Highlighting is driven by the Lua script matching the extension (code/*.lua). Check the extension (.py, .rs, …); types without a script display as plain text. You can add or modify scripts in the installed share/wxeditor/code/ directory.

Q: Garbled Chinese text? Click the encoding indicator in the status bar and switch to the correct encoding (e.g. GBK) to re-decode. Saving writes back in the current encoding.

Q: Code folding doesn’t work? Folding detection also relies on the language’s Lua script; a few languages (e.g. nested functions in Lua) have known detection limits.

Q: The title bar theme dropdown doesn’t refresh after saving a custom theme? Known issue: the title bar dropdown refreshes after reopening the window; lists inside dialogs update immediately.

10.4 Readers

Q: EPUB chapter links don’t respond? In-reader links (the wxterm-chapter: scheme) navigate within the book; for external links, right-click to copy the address and open it in a browser.

Q: Which page does double-page mode start from? The spread view starts with pages 1+2 as the first pair.

10.5 Data & Security

Q: How are remote passwords stored? Passwords in remote.json are AES-GCM encrypted with a random master key stored in the same file — do not commit that file to version control or share it casually.

Q: How do I fully reset the app? Quit the app, delete the ~/.wxeditor/ directory, and the next launch starts fresh.
