Chapter 4. Reading & Panels

4.1 Opening and progress restore

  • Double-click a book card (or select exactly one and press Enter) to open a reader window, maximized automatically.
  • Progress is saved automatically on every page/chapter turn and restored on the next open. Semantics per format: text = chapter number, PDF = page number, comic = image index, CHM = always page 1 (position remembered per topic).
  • Reading time accrues every 60 seconds while the window is alive; view it via the “Reading Time” sort.
  • Re-opening a book focuses its existing window and jumps; clicking a note/mark also focuses an already-open window.

4.2 Text panel (EPUB / MOBI / MD / TXT)

  • Content is rendered as typeset HTML: font size, line height, paragraph spacing, alignment, invert and brightness are set in “Settings → Reader” (see 7.2) and apply instantly.
  • Paging: arrow keys / PageUp / PageDown switch chapters; scroll within a chapter, and scrolling past the bottom continues into the next chapter.
  • Contents sidebar: chapter list (Markdown splits on H1, TXT on 64 KB boundaries); click to jump, current chapter highlighted; the filter box narrows by title.
  • Text selection: copy (Ctrl+C), add a note (Ctrl+N), add a mark (Ctrl+B).
  • In-content links navigate.

4.3 PDF panel

  • Vector rendering with single/two-page views (side-by-side).
  • Outline jumps: the sidebar lists the PDF bookmark outline; click to go to that page.
  • Zoom: toolbar −/+ or a precise dropdown.
  • Per-page text search (sidebar “Search” tab); results jump to pages.
  • Text can be selected and copied.

4.4 CHM panel

  • Three sidebar tabs: Contents (.hhc tree, expandable/filterable), Index (.hhk keyword list), Search (full-text across topics).
  • In-content links navigate; external links (http/mailto) open the system browser.
  • The toolbar has no history buttons; navigation relies on the contents/index/search tabs.

4.5 View modes

The toolbar “View Mode” dropdown: Continuous (default, scrolling) / Single page / Two pages. Two-page mode advances in pairs ([1,2]→[3,4]) — ideal for PDF and comics.

The sidebar “Search” tab (except comics, see 5.5):

Format Scope Result
EPUB/MOBI/MD/TXT full text of all chapters chapter + snippet
PDF text of every page page + snippet
CHM full text of all topics topic path + snippet

Typing searches live; Enter or the button is an explicit search — an explicit search with no hits shows a centered notice. Click a result to jump.
