Chapter 10. Troubleshooting
Chapter 10. Troubleshooting
10.1 Import & library
Q: importing a comic produced a pile of books? Older versions split every sub-folder of a comic into its own book. After upgrading, run “Import Comics” on the root folder again to get a single record; the old per-volume entries can be deleted in the library (source files are unaffected).
Q: does deleting a book delete the file on disk? No. Deleting removes the library record, notes, marks and the cover cache only; the source file stays untouched.
Q: I can’t see my .CHM/.ChM file in the file picker? That shouldn’t happen — the extension filter is case-insensitive. If a file is still invisible, check its extension spelling (supported formats in 3.1).
Q: “Import Folder” didn’t import my comics? “Import Folder” only collects e-book files recursively; use “Import Comics” and pick the folder.
10.2 Reading
Q: pages with the same name are hard to tell apart in a comic? The tree groups pages by volume; the filter box with a volume name locates them quickly.
Q: why is there no search tab for comics? Images have no text to search, so the comic sidebar keeps only the “Contents” tab.
Q: a TXT file opens as garbage? TXT encoding is probed as UTF-8 BOM → UTF-16 BOM → valid UTF-8 → GBK → Big5; rare other encodings (e.g. Shift-JIS) will look wrong — convert the file to UTF-8 first.
Q: dark EPUB text on a dark background image is hard to read? Reader text/background colors come from “Settings → Reader”; lower the background image opacity or switch to “Content area” mode.
Q: where are progress and reading time stored?
In the data.dat database (see 9.2); progress saves on every turn,
time accrues every 60 seconds.
10.3 UI & platforms
Q: screenshot/automation tools can’t see the window on Linux (Wayland)?
Windows default to native Wayland. For X11 tooling run
env -u WAYLAND_DISPLAY wxreader to force Xwayland.
Q: some window didn’t refresh after switching theme/language? Changes are injected into all windows instantly; if one lags, close and reopen that window.
Q: update check fails? It needs network access to the update server; the feature can be ignored offline without impact.
10.4 Known limitations
- In comic sorting, non-numeric CJK characters sort by Unicode code point (not pinyin); volume numbers (including CJK numerals) compare numerically.
- EPUB reading style (text/background color) is a global setting, not remembered per book.
- The windows / macos / freebsd packaging scripts are not yet tested.
